Situational awareness factors into the majority of recreational and commercial boating/shipping accidents. Understanding and being able to learn from the mistakes of other boaters can improve our own boating skillset. This talk will examine situational awareness from the perspective of “lessons learned” from maritime accidents.
Geoff has been sailing for 40 years, including 3 ocean crossings; North Atlantic, North Pacific and the South Pacific. He has given talks at the Vancouver International Boat Show previously, entitled “Being on the Water at Night”. He has also given talks to local boating organizations both in Vancouver and on Vancouver Island. He spent a year in Kennebunkport, Maine at the Landing Boatshop and was a volunteer for the Canadian Marine Rescue Auxiliary on Great Slave Lake, NWT.
